Nathan Mitchell, DVM
Co-Founder

Nathan received his bachelor’s in biology and Spanish at the University of Mary Washington.
From there, he attended the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.

Since Nathan was 6-years-old he wanted to be a veterinarian. On top of that, he always had a love for building and electronics. Through SIMON, Nathan has combined several of his favorite things, all while getting to work alongside his brother and close friend!

Stephen Mitchell, BS
Co-Founder

Stephen received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from James Madison University and now works for Microsoft as a software engineer. Stephen brings his professional expertise in the world of software to make SIMON’s products intuitive and easy to use.

Steven Winn, DVM, MD
Co-Founder

Steven’s use and love of ultrasound began during his years as an equine veterinary practitioner in the 1980s, with routine use in the area of reproduction and early development of diagnostic evaluation of tendon injuries. In a decades long career as an MD radiologist, his love and use of ultrasound in diagnostic and interventional applications grew, as did the technology. 

Steven has taught ultrasound to sonographers, radiology residents, radiologists, other physicians and veterinarians for over 25 years. A chance meeting with Nathan Mitchell has led to a friendship and a sharing of ideas that feeds the ongoing growth and evolution of this extraordinary learning platform; SIMON.

Our Story

While in veterinary school, Nathan began constructing medical simulators with his brother, Stephen Mitchell, and his mentor, Steven Winn. These simulators helped students learn difficult medical skills and practice them on patient models.

After their first creation, the ultrasound simulator, the three of them founded the company “SIMON Education Systems”.

Along with medical simulations, SIMON provides an Ultrasound Database that is free for anyone to use. This database is a great reference to view ultrasound videos of both normal and abnormal findings.

Together, we are dedicated to providing future doctors with high quality medical simulations at an affordable price.
